ABOUT US

JV Environmental Services is a subsidiary of J-V Dirt + Loam which has been doing business in Austin since 1970. Operations are based at the Company-owned 80-acre tract of land located in east Austin, just 3-miles north of the new airport. J-V Dirt + Loam is positioned as the largest supplier of landscape soils in the area.

In 1997, J-V Dirt + Loam began installing compost and mulch for use as erosion control and re-vegetation. In 2000, TxDOT began implementation of Special Specifications for the use of compost. With the printing of the new TxDOT Blue Book of Standard Specifications in March 2003, compost became a standard product for use on roadways statewide.

JV Environmental Services has emerged from J-V Dirt + Loam as the preferred residential and commercial installer of mulch, compost, erosion control, and re-vegetation. The experienced team uses their expertise in providing more detailed and personalized services to homeowners and business owners, including landscape designers. Using advanced technology, the installers can install compost and/or mulch products, saving valuable time and labor while enhancing the beauty of your landscaping and improving the soil.

The President of JV Environmental Services, Don Legacy, has been active in the professional and environmental aspects of the landscape industry for many years. He has served on numerous governmental committees, such as the committee that developed the TxDOT Compost Specifications and many for the City of Austin. Those City of Austin committees included studies on the "heat island effect," the development of the "Green Garden Program" - a program designed to help people have environmentally responsible landscapes, and many others.

Mr. Legacy is on the state board of directors for the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, which is the largest organization in the country representing the landscape and associated industries. He is so the President of the Texas WaterWise Council, an organization of water suppliers, water regulators and private water-related businesses, which is designed to promote the protection of our state’s water resources. In addition, he is the Chairman and a regular contributor to the Central Texas Horticulture Council. The Council is responsible for production of the Gardening Corner, the weekly garden section that is printed each Saturday in the Austin American Statesman newspaper.
